First-grade teachers, Angela Martinez and Barbara Podmore, wrote a mini-grant for an outdoor learning environment that would allow Searingtown students to enjoy learning and to discover along the way. The Herricks Community fund awarded them the grant.
In the grant, they envisioned a space where teachers could instruct their classes, while continuing to cultivate a lifelong love of learning, as well as a love for the outdoors.
Their tree stump seating arrangements arrived quickly, and their two first grade classes painted the tops of the tree trunk seating with a base coat of Herricks blue and white for Scotties Pride. The Art Club then painted paw prints to represent our Searingtown Scotties!
A weatherproof board will soon be installed, but the lab is already open for all to use …. Just in time for Spring!
