Congratulations to Herricks High School Senior Meredith Daly
Herricks High School Senior Meredith Daly was recently recognized by the Long Island Arts Alliance as one of 20 recipients of the Scholar-Artist Merit Award. She has also been selected to perform with the NYSSMA All-State 2023 Symphony Orchestra. Meredith currently studies flute with Judith Mendenhall, and she is a member of the Herricks High School Honors Wind Ensemble.
This past summer, Meredith was one of four flute students selected to participate in the Young Artists Orchestra (YAO) at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute (BUTI). As part of the YAO at BUTI, Meredith had the opportunity to learn from esteemed faculty from Boston University, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Boston Pops. She performed flute and piccolo roles with the orchestra and also performed with chamber groups and in community engagement activities.
Meredith is the first place winner of the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra (MYO) of New York’s 2022-2023 Concerto and Vocal Competition, and she will perform a movement from Reinecke’s Concerto for Flute and Orchestra with MYO’s Nassau Principal Orchestra this fall.
Meredith has been a member of MYO since 2019, where she has performed in the role of
Principal Flute for all three levels of the program. Meredith has also performed as principal flute with the NYSSMA 2022 All-State Symphonic Band, the Long Island Youth Orchestra, Nassau Suffolk Performing Arts, and the Children’s Orchestra Society. Meredith was also a winner of the New York Flute Club 2022 Young Musicians Contest.
Meredith is an active member of the Herricks High School Tri-M Music Honor Society, where she is currently Co-Vice President. In addition to her passion for music, she is also a member of Herricks High School Peer Partners Program and the Justice League.
