Herricks Unveils Student-Designed Mindfulness Logo

Herricks High School senior Andrew Brala designed a districtwide Mindfulness Logo that will be represented in each building to highlight the importance of mindfulness practices. Mindfulness is an important component of the Herricks school culture, recognized across all grade levels by students, staff members and parents.

The Social Emotional Learning Committee asked the Advertising Design class at the high school to create logos for consideration this past fall. The committee selected four finalist entries, which were voted on by students in grades 3 through 12 just before the holiday break. Andrew was selected as the winner based on his portrayal of what mindfulness means to those in the district.

Andrew’s logo displays a yoga pose and petals that together form a lotus flower to represent enlightenment, calmness, self-focus, health and relaxation. He incorporated the district logo as a way to communicate that the schools are here to support students who seek mindfulness. Below the illustration are the phrases “Herricks Mindfulness” and “Just Breathe.”

“I feel this logo represent consciousness, awareness and accepting ones feelings,” Andrew said. “Overall, I wanted this logo to be calm and simple just like how ones mind should be.”
