A group of Herricks High School students took on the Fed Challenge on March 12 at the Federal Reserve Bank. In a blind round of competition, the team successfully advanced by posting the high score in their room.
Simon Liu, Carrie Hsiu, Davina Lee, Felisha Ma and Rushikesh Patel will advance to the semifinal round on April 16, to be held at the same location as the recent event. This is the first time Herricks has advanced in this extremely challenging economics competition. The faculty advisors to the team are Melissa Jacobs and Doug Kramer.
The Fed Challenge is a competition of ninth- and tenth-graders, designed to bring real-world economics into the classroom. Schools in the Federal Reserve’s Second District are eligible to participate. Teams play the role of monetary policymakers by analyzing economic conditions and recommending a course for monetary policy in a 12-minute presentation and 15-minute questioning session.
