Two Herricks Musicians Win First Place at MYO Concerto Competition

On Feb. 6, Herricks High School student Ju Young Yi and Herricks Middle School student Carolyn Lau each won first-place in their respective divisions at the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition, held at the Congregational Church of Huntington in Centerport. They were among only a few Long Island students invited to participate based on recordings they submitted through a competitive application process.

Carolyn performed Fantaisie Brillante on Themes from “Carmen” on the flute, and Ju Young played the piece, Concerto No. 1 in F Minor, Op. 73. Each winner received a $500 cash prize plus the opportunity to perform a concerto in their respective ensembles.
