On Wednesday October 24th Searingtown celebrated Unity Day, a day schools unite to "stand up against bullying." Searingtown celebrated Unity Day in many ways. First, all students and staff wore the color orange, the national bully prevention color. Second, all students and staff attended an assembly led by Mrs. Andres to learn about Unity Day and how Searingtown can "stand up against bullying.” The assembly focused on how Searingtown can unite against bullying by acting as upstanders, not bystanders. Lastly, the classroom teachers led a classroom activity inviting students to write a sentence on an orange piece of construction paper to describe why it is important to stand up against bullying. In the weeks following Unity Day these pieces of construction paper will be linked together to create a "united chain" of orange throughout the hallways of the building. Searingtown will continue to celebrate these ideals to ensure we are a bully-free school!
