Herricks Wins More Math Medals

Herricks students recently added more achievements to the district’s list of math successes earned this year. Five middle school students attended the MathCON National finals at the University of Illinois in Chicago on May 5 and 6 and middle and high school students both excelled at the Al Kafus Long Island Math Fair held on April 20 at Hofstra University.

At the MathCON finals, after the initial excitement at seeing their names on the big screen in the University of Chicago’s auditorium, students did an outstanding job representing Herricks. Seventh-grader Ashley Lam won a Bronze Medal, and seventh-graders Ashish Jalwan, Megan Cheng and Orik Ehren earned Honorable Mentions. They were accompanied by teacher Josephine Bruno.

The Long Island Math Fair required students to present their research on math topics to a panel of judges. Teachers Stacy Hart and Alyssa Khan were instrumental in preparing seventh- and eighth-graders for this event, while Lindsey Quenqua and Carrie-Ann Wallad worked with those at the high school.

Congratulations to Gold Medal winners Prerit Chaudhary, Haritha Lakshmanan, Christopher Lo and Aman Sawhney at the high school level and Priya Abraham, Aanya Goel, Wafiq Khondkar, Stanley Kong, Carolyn Lau, Jeylin Lee, Esther Min, Sanyah Nabi, Kayla Sohn, Keneil Soni, Tanush Soni and Chris Zovko from the middle school. Silver Medal recipients were Derek Chen, Carrie Hsu and Arpitha Vinod from the high school and Genesis Kang, Tenzin Menrinetsang and Moniza Mujtaba from the middle school. Bronze Medals were attained by high school students Rohan Gupta, Justin Koe, Preethi Krishnamoorthy, Uttsav Patel, Arfan Rasheed, Hita Soni and Anisha Singla and middle school students Aadithyaa Balasubramanian, Ashish Jalwan, Ankita Jha, Alexa Mendez, Rushil Saini and Liam Tan.
