Searingcott Medal Awards Announced!

Second graders became picture book judges for Searingtown library's "Searingcott Award" an annual award based on the American Library Association's Caldecott Award. Students read and evaluated several picture books, voted for their favorites, and entered our medal design contest.

This year the second graders awarded the Searingcott gold medal to Claymates (written by Dev Petty and illustrated by Lauren Eldridge) while the silver medals went to Little Fox in the Forest (written and illustrated by Stephanie Graegin); Egg (written and illustrated by Kevin Henkes); Red and Lulu (written and illustrated by Matt Tavares); and  The Wolf, the Duck and the Mouse (written by Mac Barnett and illustrated by Jon Klassen).

Students were asked to design a medal that reflected the quote "You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax, all you need is a book," by Dr. Seuss. Winning medal designers were (from left to right): Zinnia Ratra, Savina Datta, Ethan Lim, Arsh Gulati, and Callista Lien.
