The Herricks Public Schools recognized numerous students’ achievements at the Feb. 1 Board of Education Meeting. The district has celebrated a variety of awards and honors this season, and two prominent accomplishments were acknowledged with certificates and public honors.
High School sophomores Kristen Aloysius and Carrie Hsu were congratulated as first and second place winners, respectively, in level 3 of a French Poetry Competition coordinated by the American Association of Teachers of French’s Nassau County Chapter. Kristen recited “Harmonie du soir” by Charles Baudelaire, and Carrie presented “Chez la fleuriste” by Jacques Prévert.
Members of the Herricks Highlandbots robotics team were applauded for their success at a recent tournament, where they received an Excellence Award and qualified for the U.S. CREATE Open National VEX Robotics Competition and Southern New York State VEX High School Championships. Chloe Chu, Aveena Desai, Ethan Feng, Herbert Hagemann, Victoria Ip, Ankit Jain, Zain Jiwani, Preethi Krishnamoorthy, Kanishk Kumar, Haritha Lakshmanan, Jonathan Leung, Alisa Liu, Christopher Lo, Eish Maheshwari, Bhavesh Patel, Uttsav Patel, Arfan Rasheed, Naim Rasheed, Shubh Savani, Dev Shah, Rishi Shah, Irene Shao, Richard Tsai, Sahith Vadada and Hubert Zhou showed great dedication and spirit. They are now preparing to head to Northern Westchester in March, where they will compete at the state level.
