The Herricks Public Schools’ Searingtown Elementary School held its annual fourth-grade Colonial Fair on June 8. Students provided a visual, interactive showcase of the knowledge that they have obtained about colonial life through classroom lessons and activities.
The building’s gymnasium was transformed into a colonial museum. Fourth-graders researched a variety of topics and created displays, presented written reports and even offered demonstrations and explanations. Each class was assigned a theme, such as biographies, crafts and jobs, and selected their own areas of focus within those categories.
While guests toured the exhibit and learned about attire, foods, games, toys, family life, education, historical events and impactful individuals from the colonial period.
