Herricks students honored during May BOE meeting
Among a sea of doting parents, faculty and students, members of the Herricks Board of Education recognized students for their academics and community service during their May 4 meeting.
“We are very proud of these incredibility talented young students,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Fino Celano. “They continue to uphold the highest level of academic standards, give back to their community and inspire us all to be terrific leaders.”
Kicking off the celebratory evening, Dr. Celano acknowledged the 2017 Valedictorian, Setu Mehta and Salutatorian, Alan Chen for their impressive GPAs and involvement in extra curricula’s, music, sports and community engagement.
Following, the Board honored seniors Aaron Aguiar and Robert Curran for earning their Eagle Scout awards. According to the Boy Scouts of America website, only about 5 percent of all Boy Scouts are granted this rank after fulfilling the requirements in the areas of leadership, service and outdoor skills.
Next, Herricks High School senior Naeha Pathak was recognized for receiving the President Volunteer Service award. Naeha earned this designation for volunteering significant amounts of time to assist the community and country.
Under the direction of advisor Chloe Graef, members of the Herricks High School Model United Nations club received top honors during the 5th annual Eagle MUNC Conference in Boston. The board commended Tal Dotan and Bhavesh Patel for earning the title of Outstanding Delegate and Nibras Ahmend and Barath Mahesh for receiving honorable mention.
Concluding the evening, Herricks High School senior Carly Stein was honored for receiving the Jewish Community Relations Council of Long Island’s (JCRC–LI) Students Building Bridges award. Carly earned this designation for establishing connections within her community and serving as a role model among her peers.
