Chicks Hatching at Searingtown

Thanks to a Long Island School Media Association Grant awarded to Searingtown School Librarian, Karen Kliegman, fourth and fifth grade students from Jan Smythe's class and Christy Alden's class were able to watch and document the process of chicks hatching. The grant money allowed Ms. Smythe and Technology Teacher, Noel Forte, to participate in a  Chick Incubation & Embryology Teacher Training Workshop given by the Cornell Cooperative Extension. The grant was also used to purchase an incubator, fertile eggs, and other equipment needed.

Additionally, the students are researching different kinds of North American birds under the guidance of their teachers, Mrs. Kliegman, and Mrs. Forte. Money from the grant was also used to purchase books and ebooks.
