Searingtown Elementary School in the Herricks Public Schools hosted an author visit with one of the students’ favorite children’s writers, Dan Gutman.
Mr. Gutman has written 130 books encompassing a variety of children relatable stories including the series “My Weird School,” “Baseball Card Adventures,” “The Genius Files,” “Flashback Four” and the picture book series “Rappy the Raptor.”
On Feb. 17, Mr. Gutman read grade-level appropriate books to Searingtown students in grades K-5. Concluding each read aloud, he held a Q&A session, during which students asked questions about becoming an author and the writing, creativity and thinking process it takes to create a book.
Additionally, Mr. Gutman enjoyed lunch with 10 students in the library who won the “Dine with Dan” essay contest. Contest winners where selected for exceptionally explaining why they should be invited to lunch with Mr. Gutman. During lunch, Mr. Gutman engaged students in conversations about future story ideas.
