In a beautiful reminder of the power of presence and connection, Superintendent Dr. Tony made a special visit to Mrs. Martinez’s classroom – not for a walkthrough or a meeting, but for something far more meaningful: a play date.
The idea was sparked earlier this year when a student, with genuine hope and curiosity, asked: “Can you have a play date with me?”
That question became the seed for an unforgettable day rooted in joy, trust and relationship-building.
During the visit, students were given free choice to play and explore—a true Fun Friday. From dramatic play, constructing puzzles, building stations and tic-tac-toe games, the classroom buzzed with laughter, creativity and collaboration. In one standout moment, Asher teamed up with his peers to build a block fort – using not only their imaginations but also our school’s “6 Cs”: Compassion, Confidence, Collaboration, Communication, Creative Innovation and Critical Thinking.
Dr. Tony didn’t just watch – he joined in. He played alongside the students, listened to their ideas, celebrated their creations and made them feel truly seen. His presence turned a simple question into a powerful moment of connection.
This wasn’t just a play date – it was a celebration of what makes school a community. That one student’s question opened the door for an experience that reminded us all how much joy and trust can grow when leaders meet students where they are – at their desks, with blocks and big imaginations.
Dr. Tony’s visit highlighted the heart of relationship-centered education: when we take time to connect, we create space where students feel valued, heard and inspired.
Thank you, Dr. Tony, for turning one child’s heartfelt question into a moment none of us will forget – and for reminding us that leadership is most powerful when it’s personal.
From forts to friendships, giggles to gratitude, this Superintendent & Super Playdate was a true triumph of community and care.
