Mrs. Martinez’s first grade Scotties recently enjoyed a meaningful and educational visit to the Herricks Community Center as part of their Social Studies unit on community, citizenship and civic responsibility.
During the visit, Superintendent Dr. Sinanis guided students on a tour of the building, introducing them to the many programs offered to support members of the Herricks community. Students learned about the Senior Citizen Center, the Harbor Day Universal Pre-K program and the Ballet School, gaining an understanding of how the Community Center serves learners of all ages.
The class then toured the second floor, where they had the opportunity to meet with district office employees who work behind the scenes to keep the school district running smoothly. From daily operations to essential services, students discovered how each department plays an important role in supporting Herricks schools.
Throughout the experience, students reflected on a key lesson from their classroom studies – “it takes a village.” The visit reinforced the importance of every community member and how working together helps create a strong, supportive environment for learning and growth.
The Scotties proudly thanked everyone they met for their dedication and contributions to the Herricks School District, leaving with a deeper appreciation for their community and the people who make it thrive.
