Fourth grade classrooms at Searingtown were recently transformed into the "Happiest Place on Earth" for an unforgettable day of immersive learning. On April 24, students stepped out of their traditional routines and into a world of enchantment designed to make math review both rigorous and fun.
An Immersive Learning Adventure
To prepare for their upcoming NYS math assessments, the Scotties embarked on a journey through the four iconic Disney theme parks:
- Magic Kingdom
- Animal Kingdom
- Hollywood Studios
- Epcot
The adventure didn’t stop at the parks—students even "set sail" on a simulated Disney Cruise to the Bahamas, ensuring the excitement spanned the entire school day.
Putting Math into Action
As students rotated through the themed environments, they tackled a variety of essential fourth-grade mathematical concepts. The "magical" curriculum included:
- Operations: Mastering complex multiplication and division.
- Fractions: Navigating parts of a whole through park-themed challenges.
- Measurement: Calculating area and perimeter for park "expansions."
- Geometry: Identifying shapes and angles found within famous attractions.
Learning Meets Celebration
The day was filled with more than just equations. Between solving problems, students "rode" thrilling attractions, enjoyed a simulated parade and capped off the experience with a dazzling fireworks show.
By blending academic standards with high-energy engagement, our fourth grade teachers created a meaningful way for students to build confidence and sharpen their skills alongside their classmates. It was truly a day where the "magic" of education took center stage!
Congratulations to our Scotties for their hard work and "magical" mathematical thinking!
