The district congratulates eighth grader Lakshitha Lakshmanan who recently won gold and bronze medals at the 36th annual New York State Governor’s Cup, the preeminent Taekwondo tournament.
Lakshitha, a second degree blackbelt, has been training in Taekwondo since she was six years old. This was her second major competition and her first gold medal in board breaking. She credits her win to her signature kick, called “Nadaban,” which is a spinning round kick. At the tournament, she ended her ten kick board breaking routine by perfectly executing this kick, blindfolded! Her bronze award was earned for exceptional performance in the “form” division.
When asked about the benefits of practicing Taekwondo, Lakshitha says that it has helped her in many ways, including boosting her self-confidence and self-esteem and helping her to be more social and outgoing.
The district is proud to recognize Lakshitha for this tremendous accomplishment and wishes her the best of luck as she progresses on in this exciting sport.
