Four HMS Student Musicians Selected for NYSBDA Honor Band

On March 7, four Herricks Middle School students traveled to Syracuse, NY to perform as members of the New York State Band Directors Association (NYSBDA) Middle School Honor Band.

Students invited to perform at the prestigious concert include Ashley Peng, Eleanor Ko and Cassandra Oswanigam were selected for flute and Christian Lung was selected for trombone.

One hundred and eight students made up this ensemble and were selected from across New York State to rehearse and perform a concert with Dr. Erin Cole Steele, Clinical Assistant Professor at Arizona State University's School of Music.

The students had a memorable experience making new friends, performing with new musicians and learning from experts in the music education.

The district is proud to recognize these students for this impressive accomplishment and grateful to Middle School Band Director Alicia Brown for giving them the tools and confidence perform with the best in their age group.
