Herricks Students Selected for Prestigious Lincoln Center Regional Chamber Music Showcase

Three chamber music ensembles from Herricks were selected to perform in the ninth annual Long Island Semifinal Regional Concert on March 5, as part of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s Young Musicians Program. This competitive regional event highlights exceptional young chamber musicians from across Long Island, with only 14 ensembles chosen to participate – including two groups from Herricks High School and one from Herricks Middle School.

The Young Musicians Program provides advanced student musicians with an opportunity to study and perform chamber music at a high level under the guidance of artists from the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. To qualify for the Semifinal round, Herricks ensembles submitted recordings during a preliminary phase and were offered written feedback from a CMS roster artist.

Herricks’ participating ensembles were coached by Herricks High School Orchestra Teacher Catherine Birke and Herricks Middle School Orchestra Teacher Eva Viavattine, who guided students through the rigorous preparation process.
The concert offered a full day of inspiring performances and showcased the outstanding musicianship of students from across the region. Ensembles selected from this round will be considered for an invitation to perform in the prestigious Young Musicians Final Concert at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center this May.

The district congratulates the participating student musicians for their commitment, artistry and professionalism.
