Herricks High School Welcomes Freshmen at “Bagels and Locks” Orientation Event

On August 25, Herricks High School officially welcomed its newest class of students during the annual "Bagels and Locks" Freshman Orientation, a supportive tradition designed to ease the transition into high school life.

The event brought together incoming ninth graders for a morning of connection, guidance and community building. Facilitated by dedicated student mentors, the orientation featured small-group sessions where upperclassmen shared practical advice on navigating academic expectations, balance and school culture. Freshmen were also given comprehensive tours of the facility to help them familiarize themselves with the building ahead of the first day of school. 

In addition to campus tours, students explored the wide variety of extracurricular opportunities available at Herricks High School, learning how to get involved in campus clubs and student organizations. The morning also included a shared breakfast, giving students an informal opportunity to connect with peers and build new friendships. 

The district extends its gratitude to the student mentors, faculty and staff whose hard work made the event a success. We look forward to seeing the newest class of Highlanders thrive throughout the upcoming school year.
