Herricks High School String Quintet Featured at Lincoln Center Showcase

On May 7, the Herricks High School String Quintet took the stage at Alice Tully Hall to perform in the 42nd Annual Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s Young Musicians Program finalist concert. The ensemble was one of only 12 selected from across the region to showcase their talents after emerging as winners in the regional competitions held this past March.

The quintet – comprised of student musicians Nathan Tan, Julia Lam, Grace Kang, Ethan Yip and Kyle Yung – delivered a standout performance featuring the New York premiere of "Good Times," a contemporary work by renowned composer Xavier Foley.

The Young Musicians Program is a highly competitive initiative designed for elite student performers. To earn their place in the final showcase, the Herricks ensemble underwent a rigorous selection process. Under the guidance of orchestra teacher Catherine Birke, the students submitted recordings for preliminary judging, advanced through a live regional semifinal round and participated in an intensive coaching session with a Chamber Music Society roster artist at the Rose Studio.

This performance at Lincoln Center represents the culmination of months of dedication and artistic growth for these young musicians. Their successful debut of a New York premiere on such a world-renowned stage highlights the exceptional caliber of the Herricks music program. The district congratulates these talented students on reaching this significant milestone in their musical journeys.
