Herricks Public Schools is proud to announce that Herricks High School junior Kristen Lee has been named the recipient of the prestigious Nassau County Teen Poet Laureate Scholarship.

Selected by a panel of past Poets Laureate for her outstanding application and exceptional literary talent, Kristen will serve as Nassau County’s second Teen Poet Laureate during her upcoming senior year.

The countywide initiative is facilitated by the Nassau County Poet Laureate Society and was founded by Alan Semerdjian, who has served as the Nassau County Poet Laureate since 2024. In addition to the title, Kristen will receive a scholarship award in recognition of her creative achievements. Kristen’s milestone accomplishment will be formally celebrated at a special recognition ceremony on May 30 at the Farmingdale Public Library.

Herricks congratulates Kristen on this wonderful achievement, and extends its gratitude to the teachers who have supported her along the way. The district is incredibly proud of her hard work and wishes her the best as she steps into her role as Teen Poet Laureate this coming school year.
