On Friday, October 17, members of the Chamber Choir, Upper Voices, and Lower Voices attended a dress rehearsal of Puccini’s La Bohème at the Metropolitan Opera House in Manhattan with Ms. O’Hanlon and Mrs. Nelson. This marked the first time the choirs attended a dress rehearsal, making it an exciting and memorable experience for all.
La Bohème is a tragic opera that tells the story of love between a struggling poet, Rodolfo and a seamstress, Mimi, set in 19th-century Paris. It also follows the on-again, off-again relationship of Rodolfo’s friends, painter Marcello and the flirtatious Musetta. Students were encouraged to listen to selections from the opera and watch the Broadway musical Rent, which is based on La Bohème, to compare and contrast the two works.
The trip was a wonderful success, and the choral department hopes to make this an annual tradition!
