Herricks Public Schools welcomed students back for the 2026-27 school year on September 1 with excitement, school pride and a continued focus on building strong connections from day one.
As part of the district's districtwide "soft start" approach, students in grades K-12 began the year in a welcoming environment designed to promote relationship-building, community and a positive transition into the academic year. The initiative, first introduced at the high school level in 2023, has since expanded across all grade levels.
Throughout the day, students participated in activities designed to ease the transition back to school. Across all grade levels, they met classmates and teachers, explored their new learning environments and took part in team-building experiences that set a positive tone for the year ahead.
By beginning the year with a focus on belonging and relationship-building, the district continues to prioritize the social and emotional foundation that supports student success both inside and outside the classroom.
