The Herricks community gathered in the Community Center Auditorium on June 11 for a Board of Education meeting dedicated to honor, service and exceptional growth. The evening blended heartfelt gratitude for longtime leaders with bright celebrations of student development and grassroots community support.
Growing the "Portrait of a Graduate"
The evening also spotlighted the future of Herricks through the recognition of the Elementary Portrait of a Graduate Award recipients. This milestone celebration highlighted younger learners who have begun to exemplify the district's core operational values:
- Collaboration and Communication: Building trust, listening actively and sharing ideas respectfully.
- Critical Thinking and Creative Innovation: Cultivating a spirit of lifelong curiosity to solve problems.
- Confidence and Compassion: Taking resilient risks while offering empathy and kindness to others.
The Board, along with administrators from each school, proudly presented these awards to outstanding students from Center Street, Denton Avenue and Searingtown.
Girls Flag Football Triumphs as Nassau County Champions
The Board proudly recognized the Herricks Girls Varsity Flag Football Team following their historic run to become the Nassau County Champions.
Director of Athletics Kru Patel, along with the team's coaching staff, joined the Board in praising the athletes for their dominance, teamwork and championship standard on the field.
Celebrating Partnerships and Vision
Recognizing that student success relies heavily on a strong home-school connection, the Board took time to formally recognize the PTA Presidents and Co-Presidents from across the district. These parent volunteers were commended for their tireless fundraising, community programming and advocacy that enrich the daily educational experience for every Herricks child.
Honoring Dedicated Leadership
A cornerstone of the meeting was a special presentation honoring trustees Mr. James Gounaris and Mr. Henry R. Zanetti. The district expressed profound appreciation for their steadfast leadership, collaborative spirit and unwavering commitment to the Herricks community. Through years of dedicated service, both trustees have helped shape policy and foster a nurturing environment where all students can thrive.
