Seniors in the Herricks Spanish Language Immersion Program at Herricks High School visited Denton Avenue on March 6 to strengthen connections between language and literacy across grade levels. This annual tradition brings seniors back to the elementary school to share their passion for Spanish and to serve as role models for younger immersion students.
During the visit, pairs of seniors joined each K-5 immersion classroom, where they selected a Spanish book of their choice to read aloud. After the story, the seniors led interactive activities that reinforced key themes while engaging students in meaningful Spanish language practice.
The visit highlights the strong sense of community within Herricks’ immersion program. Younger students see firsthand the long-term language skills that can be developed through years of dedication, while seniors have the opportunity to reflect on their own growth and leadership.
This experience continues to inspire elementary students, many of whom look forward to one day returning to Denton Avenue as seniors themselves – continuing the cycle of mentorship, connection and bilingual learning.
