Online Registration Manual

The Herricks Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) Program is a full-day program that is entirely funded by a grant from New York State. Continuation of the program each year is fully dependent on funding from New York State.
Who is Eligible? Students who will be four (4) years old on or before December 1 of the year of enrollment in the program, and who are residents of Herricks School District, are eligible to apply. Application Process: Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) registration opens online on the district website in mid-December. The online registration, including the upload of all mandatory documentation and proofs of residency and date of birth, must be completed by January 31. Registration does not guarantee placement into the program. Selection Process: Random selection is required by New York State. Selection for this program is done by a lottery in the spring by a committee consisting of the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction, a representative from the Business Office, and a Herricks resident. The number of seats will be capped based on state funding. Those who do not secure a placement into the program will be put on a waiting list, in order of their draw from the lottery.  Parents are notified by email of the results of the lottery. The Program: The Herricks UPK Program is a free, full-day program that is run by Harbor Child Care, located on the main floor of the Herricks Community Center.  The UPK Program runs from 8:45 a.m. - 2:45 p.m.  Breakfast, lunch and snack will be provided.  Transportation is not provided.  After the names have been selected from the lottery, Harbor Child Care receives the list and begins to schedule students.  Notification of schedule and orientation will come directly from Harbor Child Care. The program meets all of the instructional requirements of the NYS UPK Grant. Questions concerning the educational philosophy of the program and details about the program itself should be directed to the Center Director for Harbor Child Care at 516-248-7048.  Universal Pre-Kindergarten Application:
