Meet Our Superintendent
Dear Members of the Herricks Community,
When I look back on my first year in Herricks the one word that most consistently comes to mind is… community! The strong sense of community - and unity - is what sets Herricks apart from our other school districts and neighborhoods. We may not be bound by one town or village; instead we are bound by our commitment to our school community and specifically the success and well-being of our students. Our children are our most precious assets, and it is through the collaborative effort between parents, educators, and the wider school community that we can continue to nurture an environment where our students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
The 2022 - 23 school year was an extraordinary journey highlighted by remarkable achievements and resounding success. One of the most significant points in the journey occurred late last summer when we received notice from the state that all pandemic related restrictions were lifted, which allowed us to reimagine our learning spaces so we could prioritize collaboration, communication, and critical thinking. Our schools were immediately filled with a palpable level of energy and enthusiasm sparked by our students, faculty and staff. If the smiles were any indication, it was clear that everyone was thrilled to be back. As a result, there were many academic successes and accomplishments last year. Some of the highlights included a group of HHS students taking second place in the country in the National History Day competition, our HHS Chamber Orchestra winning 2nd Place in the 2023 ASTA National Orchestra Festival, and a group of 5th Graders earning first place in the region in the National Stock Market competition. It was an amazing year for our school community and we look forward to continued learning and success in the 2023 – 24 school year, which will be informed by our Strategic Coherence Planning process. In addition to the meaningful learning experiences, there were also a number of critical facilities improvements that took place. As we prepare to kick off the new school year, capital projects continue to unfold. We are updating the Community Center Auditorium, refreshing the elementary school lunchrooms, and renovating several classrooms and bathrooms at the secondary level.
It is truly an incredible joy and privilege to serve as your Superintendent of Schools and I cannot wait to continue spotlighting our amazing students, faculty, staff and community in this year’s Herricks’ Happenings Video Updates! Feel free to contact me or anyone on our administrative team if you have any feedback, questions or concerns. Have a wonderful year!
