English Language Arts & Reading
The Herricks Public Schools English Program seeks to foster a learning community dedicated to the social and academic development of each student and to the professional development of each educator. We honor and respect each student as an individual with regard to learning process, ethnicity, and cultural experiences. Since language governs our lives, our program seeks to cultivate sensitivity to the art of written expression, to promote a life-long exploration of reading and writing, and to nurture active, independent, responsible learners through varied experiences in and out of the English classroom.

Family Literacy Night!
Herricks’ first ever Family Literacy Night was a great success! With over 100 attendees and 15 different workshops led by teachers, our families had a wonderful time. The night kicked off with a karaoke sing-along and concluded with an original Herricks themed bedtime story that Dr. Imondi created in the style of Goodnight Moon.
It was a fantastic way for our community to come together and celebrate the importance of reading and literacy in a fun, engaging way. Thank you to all of our teachers, administrators, and our Director of ELA, Reading, and Library Services, Dr. Michael Imondi, for creating this amazing event!
