  • General Information about DECA

    Students who register for a business education course will have an opportunity to join the Herricks Chapter of DECA, a career-oriented business and marketing organization.

    DECA Chapters operate in 3,500 high schools across the U.S., Puerto Rico, Guam and Canada.  There are over 215,000 members worldwide and it is recognized and endorsed by all 50 state departments of education and the U.S. Department of Education.  DECA Programs are co-curricular, meaning programs are based primarily on nationally recognized standards in one or more curriculum areas.

    The New York Association of DECA, Inc. is a non-profit educational association and is affiliated with National DECA located in Reston, Virginia. New York DECA is chartered by the New York State Education Department.  The goals of DECA, commonly known as the 4 points of the DECA Diamond, are to promote leadership development, civic consciousness, social intelligence and vocational understanding.

    The Herricks Chapter of DECA participates in competitive event programs, community service projects, social events and fundraising activities.  The competitive events program starts with the regional competition that takes place on Long Island and gives students an opportunity to compete against other Nassau County High School chapters.  From there, winners are taken to Rochester to compete with event winners from all across NY State.  Winners at the State Level have the opportunity to compete at the International Career Development Conference.  The location of this Conference varies year to year.  In years past it has taken place in such locations as California, Florida, Tennessee, Georgia, Texas, etc.
