Dr. Tony Sinanis Appointed New Superintendent of Herricks Public Schools
At a special meeting on Thursday, May 26, the Herricks Board of Education appointed Dr. Tony Sinanis as the district’s next superintendent of schools, effective July 1. Dr. Sinanis replaces Dr. Fino Celano, who is retiring at the end of the school year after serving as superintendent for seven years.

Herricks Middle School math teacher awarded
Herricks math teacher Josephine Bruno was named Middle School Mathematics Teacher of the Year by the Nassau County Mathematics Teachers Association for the talent and creativity she brings to her classroom.

Herricks High School Announces Long Island Scholar Artist Winner
Herricks High School is pleased to announce that senior Keneil Soni was honored as one of twenty Long Island Scholar Artists for this school year. His profile will be featured in Newsday for the month of May highlighting his academic and artistic successes in the area of music. The Scholar Artist program is managed by the Woodbury-based Long Island Arts Alliance.

Herricks Music Department Hosts Annual Jazz Festival
On Friday, April 29th, the music department hosted the 12th annual Herricks Jazz Festival at the high school. Bands from around Long Island came together to perform for one another and participate in a workshop with clinician Matt Wilson. Matt is a world class drummer, percussionist, composer and educator.

Herricks valedictorian and salutatorian recognized at BOE meeting
At the May 5 Herricks Board of Education meeting, the board recognized 2022 valedictorian Keneil Soni and salutatorian Chloe Chang. In addition to this great honor, both students were named National Merit finalists in the 67th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

Herricks student selected to receive Building Bridges Award
Herricks High School senior Jasmine Feng has been selected to receive Students Building Bridges Award from the Jewish Community Relations Council of Long Island for her efforts in creating a more civil society.

Seniors place first at International Science and Engineering Fair
Herricks seniors Chloe Chang and Kayla Sohn each won first place awards at the New York State Science and Engineering Fair and will be representing the state at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair in Atlanta, Georgia from May 7-13.

5th Annual Marcus Cup Game-2022
The Marcus Cup is named after Marcus Avenue, which is the main thoroughfare between Herricks and the New Hyde Park Schools.

Herricks Music Education Program Receives National Recognition;
Herricks has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. Now in its 23rd year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students.

Herricks High School Ranked Among the Nation’s Top Schools
Herricks High School has been ranked No. 327 on the U.S. News and World Report’s Best High Schools list, one of only 19 public schools on Long Island that were among the nation’s 1,000 best, according to the report.
