Herricks Junior Selected for Heckscher’s Long Island’s Best
The Herricks High School Art Department is thrilled to announce that junior Alexa Able was selected to exhibit her artwork at Heckscher’s Long Island’s Best. Alexa's work was selected among 75 pieces to be displayed out of 399 submissions.

Herricks Congratulates HS Athletes
Herricks Highlander Athletics was recently featured in Newsdays Top 100. Newsday ranks the top 100 athletes on Long Island in their respective sports. For the spring season, the highlanders had two athletes featured in two different sports.

Herricks sophomore wins New York Flute Club Young Musicians Contest
Herricks High School sophomore Meredith Daly is one of seven winners being recognized in the 2022 New York Flute Club Young Musicians Contest. In addition to being a dedicated member of the Herricks High School Music Department, Daly is a member of the Long Island Youth Orchestra and the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra of New York.

Herricks students come together to support Ukraine efforts
Herricks elementary and middle school students have come together to show their support for the Ukraine people by coordinating food, clothing and medical supply drives as well as sending encouraging messages of hope.

Herricks High School Chamber Orchestra World Premier
The Herricks High School Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Mrs. Catherine Birke, is proud to share the world premiere of "The Voyage," with the Herricks community. This piece was written by Indian American composer Reena Esmail specifically for our orchestra, in direct collaboration with Mrs. Birke and the students. Esmail is a composer widely renowned for "bridging the worlds of Indian and Western classical music and bringing communities together through the creation of equitable musical spaces" (https://www.reenaesmail.com/bio/). Her work has been commissioned and performed by such ensembles as the Los Angeles Master Chorale, Kronos Quartet, Imani Winds, Juilliard 415, Yale Institute of Sacred Music, Seattle Symphony, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and many more. We are thrilled to be able to add the Herricks High School Chamber Orchestra to this illustrious list!

Herricks High School comes together for Herricks Idol 2022
Herricks High School Tri-M students held the first in-person Herricks Idol in almost two years. Everyone was bubbling over with anticipation and excitement for the April Fool's night event that was full of incredible talent, as well as fun and shenanigans.

Herricks Public Schools recognized at BOE meeting
At the April 7 Herricks Board of Education meeting, New York State School Boards Association recognized Herricks Public Schools for their Spanish Immersion Program with a special banner. The recognition is part of the NYSSBA program Champions of Change.

HHS and HMS students advance to NYS History Day Contest
Six Herricks projects received recognition in the 2022 History Day regional competition that took place in March and are advancing to the New York State History Day Contest. Five of the six Herricks regional project winners were from high school students, and one was from the middle school. The 2022 theme narrative was “Debate and Diplomacy in History.”

Herricks Students Explore NYC
On April 1, STAC students embarked on an all-day adventure into the heart of New York City. The day began in Long Island City for a photography project at the abandoned railroad tracks at the Montauk Cutoff.

Herricks Senior Lia Laurita Excels in Poetry Out Loud State Finals
Congratulations to Herricks senior Lia Laurita! In March, she was named runner up in the Poetry Out Loud State finals. Attached is her recording of a poem called Lineage by Margaret Walker.

Herricks High School presents “The Little Mermaid”
Herricks High School presented Disney’s “The Little Mermaid,” a beautiful and inspirational under the sea adventure of Ariel who makes a deal with the evil sea witch and trades her voice for legs to be with her one true love. The show featured 28 actors, 43 musicians and a backstage crew of students in grades 9-12. Students presented three performances to a sold out live audience on March 25, 26 and 27.
