What Is A School Social Worker?

I provide students a safe space where they feel comfortable sharing their feelings and ideas. I am a trained mental health professional who can assist with mental health concerns, behavioral concerns, positive behavioral support, academic/classroom support and consultation with teachers, parents, and administrators. I also provide individual and group counseling. I coordinate with students, teachers, parents and the community to ensure that every student’s basic needs are met daily.

A student would see a school social worker if their mental, physical, emotional and social needs are not being met. Students may be seeing a school social worker if they are having a difficult time adjusting to recent events, forming peer relationships, experiencing behavior difficulties and having problems in the community, at home or in school. A social worker can assist a student’s family with COVID-19, academic, social, emotional and financial stressors. Social workers help students develop social skills, coping strategies and find positive solutions.
