Mrs. Hinson

Welcome to our K-1 class! My name is Mrs. Hinson and I will have the pleasure of working with you this year! The 2021-2022 school year will mark my 18th year teaching in Herricks. Even though this year will look and feel different, I am very excited about our school year. I hope that you are too! We will have lots of fun in our Superhero Class!! Together, we will learn so many new things!

One thing you should know about me is that I LOVE coffee! I love it so much that I decorate my kitchen with a coffee theme for each season. I also love to collect Rae Dunn mugs. Each morning, I enjoy waking up and choosing a special mug to drink my coffee in. My newest favorite mug is the one that reads, "Teacher Fuel." You will probably notice some of my coffee mugs in our classroom. Another thing you should know is that I LOVE superheroes. You will notice that I will often refer to my students as my "Superheroes" and will do many superhero-themed activities.

Emma and Jake, my children, also love superheroes. Emma and Jake have many superhero toys and costumes they play with all the time. I often talk about Emma and Jake. You may even see them pictures of them in our classroom! Emma and Jake are always doing or saying something funny and keep me very, very busy! Jake is a hickey player and Emma is an artist! Did you know that Mr. Hinson is a brave New York City firefighter? He is our hero!

My family and I had a very quiet and relaxing summer. In June, I had back surgery. I spent a lot of time resting at home. My family and I were able to visit the beach and the park. Mr. Hinson took Emma and Jake to Splish Splash on the days they didn't have camp. I do not have any exciting stories to share about my summer, but I am so happy I was able to relax, heal, and spend time with our family and closest friends. This summer, we simply enjoyed our time together before the hustle and bustle of the school year.

I do have one small piece of news to share! Our family adopted two kittens in June, Zoe and Zander. They are brother and sister. They are enjoying getting to know their family and new home! You can see their picture below.

It’s hard to believe that summer is almost over and that we will be back to school soon. My family and I are also anxiously anticipating a very differnt school year. Last year, Emma, Jake, and I were working remotely. We are very nervous, but also excited about returning to our school buildings. In September, Emma is starting 4rd grade and Jake will be in 3rd grade. They are excited to meet their new teachers and see their friends but are a little nervous about how different this school year will be. School may be different, but I am sure like me, their teachers will do everything they can to make it a SUPER year.

I’m looking forward to working with all of my superheroes this year! Together, we will have a SUPER!
