Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Zuvich

Welcome back to a new school year! We have so much planned, and I can’t wait to get to know you all!  I want to begin the year by introducing myself to help you get to know a little bit about me too!

This year, I am beginning my eighth year as an ELA teacher. I began my teaching career in New York City where I taught 6th grade ELA for four years.  My favorite thing about my former classroom in East Elmhurst, Queens was that I had an amazing view of the New York City skyline from my classroom window.

When I began teaching at HMS, I wasn’t completely new to the building.  In 2010, I was a student teacher in Herricks teaching 8th grade with Mrs. Laskey.  I am very excited to be starting my fourth year as a teacher here at HMS!

I attended college at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut where I majored in English.  I chose English as my major simply out of my love for literature—I didn’t know that I wanted to be a teacher yet.  After I graduated, I went on to receive my master’s degree in English education from Hofstra University.  I also have my administrative degree from St. Johns University in case I someday want to become an assistant principal or even a principal.

I spent my summer doing my most favorite thing of all: traveling with my husband.  This summer, we took every opportunity to travel around to places including the east end of Long Island, Saratoga and Lake Placid.  We finished the summer off with a trip to Portland, Oregon and Seattle, Washington.  There, we marveled at beautiful natural scenery, and we also ate lots and lots of donuts :)

I love to take road trips and stop at random places along the way.  I also firmly believe that no road trip is complete without a stop at Cracker Barrell Old Country Store.

My other two biggest loves are reading (of course!) and cooking.  I love to cook for my family and bake treats for friends.  I also enjoy kickboxing and running.  I have run races including 5Ks and even a half marathon.

I hope this page has helped you learn a little bit about me.  I am looking forward to getting to know all of you during the first week of school and all throghout the year!
