Welcome to the

Collaborative Corner!

To collaborate means to work together.

Welcome to 2010.  It is hard to believe we are in the second decade of the 21st Century.  We work hard in our class to become comfortable with 21st Century tools.  They are important for us to demonstrate our learning in school.

In language arts, we finally finished our Sign of the Beaver projects.  You can see our work, as well Mr. Cosand's work, on our wiki.  In the meantime, we have been working on Fantasy, in order to coordinate with The Chronicles of Narnia, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.  We have also been reading fantasy books in reading groups.  Each group is enjoying a different fantasy book and continuing reading discussions on their blogs.

In writing, we have been working on realistic fiction stories.  We have learned to add dialogue, action, and internal thinking to really help get the reader into the mood of the story.  We are also working on setting to help set the mood.  Our realistic fiction stories can be found on our blogs.  Please check them out and leave a comment or two.  Next we are going to try writing fantasy.

In social studies, we completed two big projects.  One was our geography project with our friends in Oregon.  Together, we learned about natural resources, while settling a new planet.  You can see our results on our Geography wiki.
We also worked with partners in British Columbia, Canada, to compare our region and country with theirs.  So far, we compared the geography.  That work is on our Western Hemisphere wiki.

Our third science unit on Simple Machines is well on its way.  We are building tools using simple machines and having great fun while learning.  We are also working on a Nutrition unit for health.  We are learning about healthy and unhealthy foods.

In math, we have completed multiplication of large numbers.  We created math videos and reviewed math websites.  You can see some of our work on our sidebar.   Right now we are competing in a Math Quest.  This fun project has us working on problem solving while moving across a game board.

W e are proud of all our work in school.  We have been working hard, learning to be independent, learning to work with others, meeting children from other places and learning to be respectful and considerate.
It has been a great first half of the year.
