Chinese

In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson
by Bette Bao Lord

Difficulty: Average

I bet you would like this book because it is very hilarious and interesting. This book is a chapter book and it is also fiction. This is one of the best books I have ever read.

The story is about a girl that first comes from China and doesn’t know any English. In China her name is Bandit but in America her name is Shirley. Shirley’s family doesn’t give up their family traditions but they do adapt to the American way of life. Some problems Shirley has is that she needs a little help speakng English and making friends.

Some information about Bette Bao Lord is that she was born in Shanghai and at age eight, when her father was trained as a British engineer, was sent to the U.S. in 1946 by the Chinese government to purchase equipment. I really think you should read this book because it is a nice lesson for everyone. By Corey
