Good-bye 382 Shin Dang Dong
by Frances Park and Ginger Park

Difficulty: Easy Reading

Moving is hard to do. In the book, "Good-bye, 382 Shin Dang Dong" by Frances Park and Ginger Park and illustrated by Yangsook Choi, a family must make a difficult move. This is a picture book and the story happened in 1980 in Korea.

The family is Korean. Jangmi, the main character, was very apprehensive about moving to the U.S.A. because it was very hard to leave her grandparents and her best friend Kisuni. She also was afraid because she did not know the language. She thought she was moving to a strange and foreign place. Even though she was afraid, she moved to Massachusetts. In Massachusetts her biggest problem was to learn English. She was able to make one friend, Mary, when the neighbors came to the house.

The authors Frances Park and Ginger Park are sisters. They live in Virginia. They own the shop “Chocolate Chocolate” in Washington DC. Besides this book, they have also written "My Freedom Trip" and "To Swim Across the World." I recommend this book. This book is great for children who have moved from one country to another country.
